Used Car Buying Tips - Getting The Most From The Test Drive
When you are in the process of buying a used car, the test drive is a very important part of the decision making process. While most look at the test drive simply as fun, it's actually a lot more than that. Here are five things you should do when taking a test drive of a used car:
1. Inspect the key before you put it in the ignition. Make sure it is not worn, cracked, or otherwise damaged.
2. After you check the odometer when you get in the car, keep an eye on it while you drive. Does it seem like the mileage is adding up reasonably? If you go two miles and the odometer doesn't move, this is reason to be concerned.
3. Do you hear any clicking noises when driving at slow speeds?
4. Make sure to test the steering wheel and the car's turning ability. If possible, try to drive in a circle in an empty parking lot. Make some sharp turns during the drive to ensure the car steers well.
5. If the car has cruise control get it going at 50 plus miles per hour to test it. If you are unable to test the car at this high of a speed, you can test the cruise control at a higher speed. Ideally, it should be tested at a higher speed.
Taking a test drive is fun, but you should be sure to learn about your car during the test. Use these five tips to make sure you get the most out of your test drive.
